Blackwork Embroidery: Small Motif/Fill Pattern

One motif is probably too small for something like a pincushion, but you can easily add as many as you need :)

Something I Made :)

Hello everyone,
One of my plans for this year is to actually make use of some of my patterns. To be honest, I made this particular one sometime last year, but I intend to do more of them in 2015.

You can find the original pattern here.
It's a very easy design and I found it to be quite useful to practise embroidery stitches on :)

Close up of the different stitches

The stitches I used are (from left to right):
- Hungarian braided chain stitch
- Chain stitch
- Stem stitch
- Back stitch
The red and purple ovals were done in satin stitch

(Edit: Another way to do a chain stitch (which I find easier to do), can be found here. This site is called Sublime Stitching, and is great too. Very fresh and modern-looking.)

All these links lead to the wonderful site, Needle 'n Thread, of the even more wonderful Mary Corbet (and no, she is not paying me to say that lol). If you're unfamiliar with her and her tutorials, and love embroidery, boy, are you in for a treat! :)
And if you already know how to do every single embroidery stitch known to man, there's loads of eye candy to drool over as well.
So go forth and enjoy :)

Bead Pattern 40: Pattern in the Round

Please note: The beads in these patterns do not look the same as the actual beads (some of those are opaque, transparent, silver-lined, matte, shiny and so on). I just pick colours that I like together, which works for the patterns, but using these actual beads in a project may very possibly not give the same results. If you like a particular colour version, just use it as "colour inspiration" rather than sticking to the exact bead numbers in the materials list :)

This pattern was made with EasyBeadPatterns free software

Since the most viewed post of all time on Imaginesque is the only round beading pattern I ever made, I thought I'd do another one :)

And when I say "one", I actually mean "two", but the other one is even simpler than the "main" round pattern, so it doesn't really count ;)
All the colour versions of the main pattern can also be used for the simpler one, I hope you'll enjoy making either one of them (or both...) :)

Free Feline Floss Holder by Delphine Doreau!

Hi all,
A few days ago I came across this cute kitten:

Isn't she adorable? She was made by Delphine Doreau, who very generously made a free printable version! You can find the page here. She does incredibly lovely work (a lot of it is even available as free downloads), so make sure to check out the rest of her blog, Le Lapin dans La Lune.

Out With the Old, in With the New! (sort of...)

Hello everyone,
I hope you're all doing well?
You'll probably have noticed the blog looks a little different, I figured with the new year and all it would be nice to make some minor changes.
I guess you could consider that a new year's resolution, although I've never really bothered with those. However, there are some other new things I would like to try in 2015.
For instance;

  • actually making things with the patterns I post :)
  • be less private (in other words: write an "About me" page (yikes!))
  • learning how to make video tutorials
  • make a thumbnail gallery for all my patterns, so they'll be easier for you all to find
  • or (if the previous resolution proves to be too technically challenging) get a Pinterest account and post all the patterns there :)
  • practice drawing/sketching
  • learn to take better photographs (or at least take more photographs...)
  • make (a lot!) more sewing patterns
  • with multilingual sewing instructions

Well, we'll see how it goes... ;)
What kind of resolutions have you all made? Have you made any you think I should try?
Feel free to let me know in the comments section, perhaps we can help each other to stick with them :)
Bye for now,
C.J.
